Pilgrim Underwear Found in Massachusetts Bay

(PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS)  During a family fishing trip on the memorial weekend, young Jerry Desman was vying to catch his first fish.  Instead he fished up a historic pair of underwear.

The Desman family usually spends their holidays at Massachusetts Bay, where they BBQ and fish until sunset normally.  This year brought a big surprise in a semi-preserved pair of pilgrim briefs, worth hundreds of dollars.

“It was a great catch,” says Gary Desman.  “Jerry was about ready to throw the underwear right back into the bay.”

The underwear was sold to a local museum in Plymouth, where they will be on display.  The museum president was more than eccentric about the pair; he was willing to try them on, before being rightfully convinced by his wife.

From this event a question arises.  How could a pair of underwear be kept underwater for hundreds of years before being unearthed by a fishing rod?  The answer isn’t so simple, according to Historian Jay Uliss.

“What is intriguing about this pair of underwear is the fact that there are no holes,” says Uliss.  “What may have happened was that this garment was stored in some sort of crate, which was damaged some how allowing some items to be released into the rest of the bay.”
