About Moe Mack

By: Jerome Bautista, Free Agent News Syndicate

His “government name” is Moses Macapuno, but our newest writer insisted that everyone at the Syndicate call him Moe Mack just because it sounded cool. Cool is a relative term, but fair enough. Being the person who hired him, I know that I’m taking a risk. But it was either him or this grumpy-looking Eastern European who had ‘flake’ written all over his resume. Besides, Moe seems to fit right in with our merry band of goofy rogues. And, that’s why I hired him (Not because he’s an American citizen like me!).

Mack was born and raised in the town of Kaneohe on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. At Castle High, he wrote for the school’s paper (Na Pali O’Ko’olau) and yearbook (Kaulana). After graduation, he attended the University of San Francisco, where he received his B.A. in History. Since he didn’t want to go into teaching or law (the only practical uses for a history degree), he ended up working a series of odd jobs (the oddest being the job of ‘obituary proofreader’ for the Daily City Record) before a fateful call from a cousin living in Carson encouraged Moe to come down to Long Beach to apply for the Syndicate’s paid ‘Intern’ position. Again, it was either him or that grumpy-looking Eastern European.

When the rest and the staff and I aren’t working Moe to death, he enjoys partaking in some of his varied interests, which include baseball games (especially those involving his beloved Oakland A’s), ‘hapa’ chicks (If you happen to be one, he’d like to hear from you!), cop shows, crime novels, obituaries, and tiki mugs. Although he spent the last six years in the Bay Area and he’s already warming up to L.A., Moe Mack is still an easygoing Hawaii boy by heart, and likes to travel back to Oahu on a regular basis to visit family and friends. And don’t worry, Mr. and Mrs. Macapuno. Your son Moses will be too damn busy to get into any trouble here in SoCal! At least that’s what he wanted me to tell you.
