A.O. Records Single over Jail Phone

(LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA)  Infamous hip-hop artist Andrew Ong used a 10 minute phone call in the L.A. County jail to call his record label to record a song a few weeks after he began his jail sentence.

The song “Rock Tha Chains” was said to be started on the second day of Ong’s sentence, according to security guard Ali Muhammad Abdul Al Hussein.  Ong asked Hussein for three sheets of paper, a pen, and six pieces of Bazooka Joe chewing gum, which Ong says is necessary for him to chew while he writes a song.

“Yeah this dude, this dude says he’s a hip-hop dude and wants some writing stuff to write a paper.  So I get his stuff, but then he says he wants Bazooka James gum.  So I remember there’s a stash of that stuff that belonged to John Mark Karr when he was staying here.  So I gave him his gum and he started writing,” says Al Hussein.

After Ong recorded the song, he stated that he wished to record an entire album over the jail phone, if he had enough Bazooka Joe gum, and if the jail warden let him.

“Like I remember there was a rapper named Shine or something, who recorded a verse over the phone.  So I thought I could do it to.  So like, I’ll try another song or something and them maybe I’ll make an album over the phone,” says Ong.  “I talked to the warden, and he said if I give the jail a small percentage of my earnings, they’ll let me do it, which is cool.”

[EDITOR’S NOTE: Bazooka Joe bubble gum is so overrated! And, so would A.O.’s music, if he were an actual rapper/felon. What is fact though is the setting for this fictitious story: the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown L.A. And oh yeah! John Mark Karr was temporarily incarcerated there. Look it up!]
